Our mission is to empower South Asian Women through professional development, leadership opportunities, financial literacy, spiritual wellness, and community engagement. In addition to our physician members, we actively support women-led small businesses by providing mentorship and networking opportunities.

We currently have a membership of over 180 women physicians across various medical specialties and are continuing to expand. We are a registered nonprofit, and we are committed to building a sustainable organization that creates lasting impact.

Founder/Chair
Dr. Nivedita Agarwal


Dr. Agarwal serves as Assistant Professor of Medicine at Yale School of Medicine Dr. Agarwal is Obesity Medicine Specialist with Hartford HealthCare and also works as an Internist at Yale New Haven Hospital She graduated from Stony Brook University with her Bachelors in Biochemistry w/minor in Anthropology and Medical school from Ross University School of Medicine.
 
She pursued her IM training from Wyckoff Heights & Brooklyn Hospital Center & fellowship training in Obesity Medicine, Nutrition and Metabolism from Boston Medical Center, MA.
 
Dr. Agarwal has been an invited guest speaker on a National and International platform of TV shows such as Focus Live Show on TV Asia and ITV Gold Channel, where she conducted community education dialogue discussing End of Life Care Measures and raising awareness about Palliative and Hospice Care to the South Asian diaspora

Secretary
Dr. Shimy Apoorva


Dr. Apoorva is a board-certified and fellowship-trained Ophthalmologist specializing in the management of ocular inflammatory diseases, the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory and infectious eye conditions.

Dr. Apoorva earned a doctorate in osteopathic medicine from Philadelphia college of osteopathic medicine, Suwanee Georgia. Upon completing her medicine training Dr. Apoorva completed her TRI and ophthalmology residency from St. John's Episcopal Hospital-South Shore, Far Rockaway, NY.

She then went on and completed her fellowship in Ocular Immunology and Uveitis at The Massachusetts Eye Research and Surgery Institute. Apart from medicine, Dr Apoorva enjoys gardening, cooking, walking and watching TV

Board Director
Dr. Urvika Choksey


Dr. Choksey serves as Assistant Professor of Geriatric Medicine, Yale School of Medicine
Dr. Choksey is currently the Medical Chair of the Yale New Haven Hospital Integrated Frailty Fracture Program, a multidisciplinary group that helps define and implement best practices in geriatric hip fracture care.

Dr. Choksey has a MBBS degree from Kasturba Medical College in India. She completed her residency at Duke/Southern Regional AHEC in 2019 and her clinical fellowship at the Harvard Multicampus Geriatric Medicine Program. 

Apart from Geriatric and Hospital Medicine, Dr. Choksey has a keen interest in Global Medicine and has contributed to health education and medical research in Nairobi (Kenya), her hometown

Treasurer
Dr. Ashmanie Mahatoo

Dr. Mahatoo is a Board-certified Neurologist with Trinity Health Dr Mahatoo has an MD degree from St. George's University School of Medicine Dr Mahatoo completed her residency training in Neurology from UConn Health/Hartford Hospital She then moved to Boston for her fellowship in Multiple Sclerosis/Neuroimmunology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, MA.


Apart from Medicine, Dr. Mahatoo loves spending time with friends and family. She has a keen interest in classical Indian texts.

Committees Chair
Dr. Khushbu Janani

Dr. Janani is a board-certified internist, who works primarily in an outpatient setting. She is currently working as a primary care physician at Soundview-Hartford Healthcare.

 

She is also currently a Program Physician at
the Pre-Admission Testing Center of Hartford Healthcare. Dr. Janani has an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from Cooper Union in New York City. She went to medical school at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine.


She then completed her residency in Internal Medicine from Inspira Medical Center in Vineland, NJ Apart from practicing medicine, Dr. Janani likes to go hiking, spending time with her family and reading.
